The Application is the global singleton that describes the server context: build version, instance name, file paths, current operator, language and locale. Reading it lets you adapt behaviors: branch on the instance, anchor files to the right folder, tag an alert with its origin.
Use application instead of hardcoding values that break when the same code is deployed elsewhere.
